Math Grading Scale
Just as a reminder, here is the breakdown of the students’ grades from the parent letter sent home:
Tests and Quizzes…30%: Upon completion of one or multiple objectives students are given quizzes. The number of quizzes per section/topic may vary depending on student comprehension. Tests will be given at the end of each section. Students are always informed of test or quiz days, and they always receive a study guide in class (along with a class review), which should appear in their notebooks.
Classwork…15%: On most days (unless there is a certain circumstance), students will receive a classwork assignment. These assignments are given after I have instructed the students on a specific topic, and I feel they are ready to work independently. Students are monitored during all classwork assignments and are able to get extra help if needed. If the work is not finished in class, the student must finish the remainder of the assignment at home so that we can go through it the following class period. If an assignment is turned in one day late, the student automatically receives half credit. Any assignment turned in after that will result in a zero.
Homework…20%: Students will receive homework assignments everyday or every other day, again depending on their comprehension of class material. Homework assignments are meant to be done independently by the student and handed in the following class period. Again, if an assignment is turned in one day late, the student automatically receives half credit. Any assignment turned in after that will result in a zero.
Accelerated Math Objectives Mastered…10% Accelerated Math Test Average…15%: Accelerated Math is done one class period per week. Students are given the entire class period to work on assignments that cover topics that we have already gone through in class, and, because it is independent, it allows them to work at their own pace. The goal is to master an “average” of two objectives per week. Although we only dedicate one class period a week to Acc. Math, students are able to work on their assignments outside of class, whether they want to get ahead or catch up. Achieving above the required objectives for each quarter is a great way for the students to boost their grade!
Participation…10%: The students’ participation grades are based upon their classroom behavior, participation is class or group activities, and being prepared for each day’s class.
